One of the things that we love to do while traveling with our pups is visit local breweries! We love good craft beer and have also found it’s a great way to meet locals and get to know the area, so make sure you visit these awesome dog friendly Asheville breweries! If you’re planning a getaway to Asheville, I’ve also put together the perfect 48 hour itinerary for Asheville to help plan your trip!
Asheville is a super dog friendly town, and we love to bring our dog’s with us here to take advantage of all of the great places to hike and explore. After a few trip’s to Asheville, NC with our dog’s we’ve definitely found a few favorites that any craft beer lover needs to visit!
South Slope Breweries
Bhramari This is one of our favorite breweries on South Slope. They have an excellent rotating menu with some really great food (if they have the Pork Ragoons get them- trust me they are SO good). If you’re traveling with your pup and it’s a nice day they allow dogs outside and have a huge outdoor dining area!
*2023 Update* As of January Bhramari has closed it’s doors and is under new ownership. I’ll update this post with the new brewery after it opens in June.
Green Man has a huge tasting room that has multiple floors and is a great place to grab a flight. The downstairs is great, but go upstairs for an even better view of South Slope and the Mountains. They allow dogs throughout and are one of the most dog friendly Asheville breweries on South Slope.
Burial Brewery is a little further down South Slope and has a very chill vibe with their own kitchen outside which specializes in local ingredients, and is a great place to grab a delicious burger! We love them for their excellent IPA’s and sour’s and allow dogs inside, but the inside area of the brewery is somewhat small so can get a little crowded. They also have a huge outdoor patio that they recently expanded!
Catawba Brewing is a larger brewery with space to spread out in the heart of South Slope. They also recently opened a larger location near Biltmore Village. Best of all, they allow dogs in their indoor “sunroom” area as well as outdoors on the patio! At the brewery they have their classic beers, like White Zombie, on tap, as well as seasonal beers. It’s a great option to visit if you’re traveling with your dogs and the weather isn’t the best. They often have food trucks onsite and there’s also a delicious donut place next door called Vortex Donuts.
Hi-Wire Brewing is a small taproom that has excellent beer and super friendly bartenders. It’s one of our favorites and makes for a great pit stop if you’re walking up South Slope. It is also a very dog friendly Asheville brewery inside, although is a small space.
Wicked Weed is a great location if you’re traveling with someone who doesn’t like craft beer, as they also have cocktails and ciders. They also have delicious food. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and they have great outdoor fire pits outside if you’re traveling with your dog.
Asheville Brewing Company is a great place to grab a bite to eat! And while they’re well known for their pizza we also love their wings. If you happen to be traveling on a Tuesday, you can get select beers for $2.99. While dog’s aren’t allowed indoors, they have a huge outdoor hanger where you can dine with your pup. They even show movies out there on summer nights!
Twin Leaf is a great brewery to visit with pups and has a small quaint brewery feel, but with lots of space. The have a plethora of board games and large tables inside and tables in their side yard if it’s a nice day. They allow dogs both inside and out.
River Arts District
Wedge Brewery is right in the heart of the RAD surrounded and a perfect place to sit outside on a sunny day or throw cornhole with friends! They regularly have food trucks and allow dogs outside. The interior of the brewery is rather small, so they do ask that pups stay outside. This is also a perfect takeout spot if you decide to go floating down the French Broad River!
New Belgium Brewery is just accross the river in the River Arts District. This is a perfect spot to watch people floating down the river, and we really love their sour’s! You can almost always find a food trucks here, since it’s one of the larger breweries in Asheville. They have a great outdoor deck and side yard that is perfect to visit outdoors with your pup!
Archetype, just up the road from New Belgium is a smaller scale brewery, that allow dogs inside. They don’t just allow dogs, they LOVE them and even have an entire instagram page dedicated to the dogs that frequent the brewery! It’s a favorite place of ours to go and catch up on some emails, or play a board game. They also offer $3 beer on Thursday for select beers and also keep cider’s on tap!
Black Mountain Breweries
Lookout is a small craft brewery with super friendly bartenders who are very dog friendly. They allow dogs both indoors and on their small patio. We’ve seriously never not felt welcomed with open arms here! We like to grab a pizza from Fresh, right across the street, after hiking Catawba Falls which is very close by! (Read more about Catawba Falls and what else you can do while visiting Asheville here)
Black Mountain Brewery, nearby is another great place to visit with pups! There outdoor deck is awesome and dogs are welcomed on the first floor of the covered deck. They have live music on the patio regularly! And they also have a great wood fired food truck if you’re hungry while you’re there!
Other Asheville Area Breweries
Highland Brewery, in East Asheville, is one of North Carolina’s oldest breweries. They have a huge taproom inside, a meadow outside, and recently added trails and volleyball courts. They frequently have food trucks and music inside the taproom
Sierra Nevada (South Asheville) is often described as the Disney of beer. While it’s not one of our go to breweries, it is an impressively large scale brewery and worth at least one visit. They have a great restaurant and you can walk inside to view the production facility and do a mini self paced guided tour. If you’re traveling without your pup, they also offer guided tours as well. Dogs are allowed outdoors on patio, which has nice view’s of the woods and a huge firepit.
