If you read the post about the bathroom design then you know John has requested a stone looking tile for the shower floor. I knew that I wanted marble looking tile in our bathroom so I didn’t want rocks that contrasted too much.
I’ve struggled over tile, trying to find the right color of tile for our space, and more importantly at the right price! We decided to spend a little more on the mosaic tiles and try and save on tiles that would cover a larger square footage.
The plan is to use a white subway for the shower walls, with
a herringbone mosaic for the niche’s. The floor will be white pebbles and I’ll continue the herringbone pattern on the bathroom floor in a larger tile. A general rule of thumb is to keep it to three tiles or less, but I think it will look okay since I’m carrying the herringbone pattern from the shower to the floor.
Here are some of my favorites from tile searching!

I really wanted white pebbles and when I found these from the builder depot (at $9.25/sqft) I knew they were perfect!
I was a little hesitant to buy tiles online without actually getting to touch and feel them first, but decided to just go for it! I’m so glad I did!
They came in a well protected box and were shipped freight so they were in great shape when they arrived! They were exactly as described and I would definitely order from the builder depot again! Our upstairs bathroom tiles are also in there! Stay tuned to read about my plans for the guest bath.
For our herringbone floor tiles we discussed cutting 12×24 down to a 6×24 size, but decided that the money we would save in tile wouldn’t be worth the risk of tiles breaking or the cost of labor for cutting each tile.
I ordered these 6×24 tiles from Home Depot. I liked the marble look and at $2.38/sq ft they were perfectly within budget!
The shower niche’s will be a herringbone mosaic tile to mimic the herringbone mosaic on the floor.
I love so many of these mosaics, unfortunately many of them took a long time to ship. So I ended up just picking up herringbone tiles from our local Lowe’s Hardware. They tie in wonderfully with the floor tile and match the color well!
For our shower walls we had planned to get white subway but our tile guy, and one of John’s friends, had enough of this beautiful white carrara tile leftover from another job! It’s beautiful! I just can’t wait to get it all installed!!
Here’s our final tile selections!
Do you have any favorite places to get tile?
